The Maker of — Sunseeker Sarong

Here’s an inspiring chat we had recently with Lazrita, the maker of our Sunseeker Sarong.

Tell me more about yourself?

I grew up in Kuantan, a small town on the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Life back then was slow-paced, and we lived just 5 minutes away from the beach. So as a kid, I spent a lot of my time outside; playing, exploring. Those formative years have taught me to appreciate the world around me, and to value simpler things in life.

How did you get into, learn, and master your craft?

I started embroidering at the height of the pandemic — got myself an embroidery kit and learned from video tutorials, so in a way I'm self-taught. I can't say I've mastered the craft though, I'm learning as I go along.

What change do you want to make?

I'm no longer the young, eager, wide-eyed girl I once was. I’d say I'm more realistic now. For any changes I intend to make, I will start with myself first. My personal practice has always been to be kind; kind with my words, my thoughts, and my actions. And I hope that it will create a little ripple effect that will positively impact the people around me.

Thoughts on the sarong?

I think the sarong is really cute! I love the design and the fabric is so soft on the skin. What I love most about it is that it incorporates the art of hand-embroidery. It shows the amount of thought and care put into each individual piece that makes it really special.

Each piece of Sunseeker Sarong takes about 3 days to complete. Different techniques were used including back stitch, whipped stitch, satin stitch and blanket stitch.
